Working Principle Description:
Hydrogenation: Nitrogen purification with hydrogenation and deoxygenation typically uses hydrogen gas as a reducing agent. Hydrogen gas is introduced into the nitrogen gas stream through a reaction vessel. The purpose of hydrogenation is to chemically react oxygen gas (O2) with hydrogen gas (H2) to produce water (H2O). The chemical reaction equation is as follows:
O2 + 2H2 → 2H2O
This reaction is a reduction reaction, where oxygen gas is reduced to water through hydrogenation.
Water Removal: The generated water molecules need to be removed from the nitrogen gas to maintain its purity. This is typically achieved by using adsorbents or desiccants. Adsorbents or desiccants can adsorb water molecules and separate them from the nitrogen gas. Common adsorbents include molecular sieves and activated carbon. By introducing adsorbents into the nitrogen gas stream, water molecules are adsorbed onto the adsorbents, thereby achieving water removal.
Hydrogen Removal: After completing hydrogenation and water removal, the remaining hydrogen gas needs to be removed from the nitrogen gas to ensure its purity. This can be achieved by using a catalyst. The catalyst can catalyze the reaction between hydrogen gas and oxygen gas, oxidizing hydrogen gas into water. Since water molecules have already been removed, the hydrogen removal reaction can completely consume the hydrogen gas in the gas, thereby achieving dehydrogenation.
