Working Principle Description:

Adsorption: The PSA nitrogen generator contains two adsorption towers filled with a specialized adsorbent material, typically carbon molecular sieves (CMS). Compressed air, which consists of nitrogen (N2) and oxygen (O2), is introduced into one adsorption tower at high pressure.

 

Selective Adsorption: The CMS adsorbent material has a higher affinity for oxygen molecules than nitrogen molecules. As the compressed air passes through the adsorption tower, the CMS selectively adsorbs the oxygen molecules, allowing the nitrogen molecules to pass through.

 

Nitrogen Production: The nitrogen-enriched gas, depleted in oxygen, exits the adsorption tower and is collected as the desired product. This nitrogen gas typically has a purity level ranging from 95% to 99.999%.

 

Pressure Swing: While one adsorption tower is in the adsorption phase, the other tower is simultaneously regenerated. Regeneration is achieved by reducing the pressure in the regeneration tower, which releases the adsorbed oxygen molecules from the CMS material.

 

Switching Cycles: After a certain period, the roles of the adsorption and regeneration towers are reversed. The nitrogen generator system switches the flow of compressed air to the regenerated tower, while the previously adsorbing tower goes into the regeneration phase. This cyclic process allows for continuous production of nitrogen gas.
